Thunderstorms & rainfall sweep across Nepal, pre-monsoon effects continue

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, some areas in the Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi States are currently receiving rainfall.

KATHMANDU: Since last night, various regions of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley, have been experiencing rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, some areas in the Gandaki, Bagmati, and Koshi States are currently receiving rainfall.

Meteorologist Raju Pradhanang stated that the monsoon, which entered eastern Koshi yesterday evening, has now reached the eastern part of Madhesh State.

Consequently, the ongoing rainfall in other areas is still influenced by pre-monsoon activities.

He mentioned that the rain in the Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas is expected to stop soon, but there is a possibility of rain again this evening.

Presently, the eastern part of the country is under the influence of the monsoon system, while the remaining regions are experiencing partial effects from local winds, westerly winds, and a low-pressure area around Bihar, India, as reported by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

During the daytime, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki States are expected to have partly to generally cloudy skies, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to mostly clear weather.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki States, a few areas in Madhesh Province, and one or two places in the rest of the country.

At night, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces will remain partly to generally cloudy, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to mostly clear weather.

There is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas of these three States, a few areas in Madhesh State, and one or two places in the rest of the country, as reported by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
