KATHMANDU: Manakamana Cable Car, Nepal’s first cable car, will be closed for approximately 50 days starting from July 15th (Ashar 31st in the Nepali calendar) for a digital system upgrade.

Manakamana Darshan Pvt. Ltd. announced that the current ‘analog’ technology will be upgraded to a state-of-the-art digital system incorporating fiber optics.

This update is set to enhance the overall efficiency and safety of the cable car service.

Deputy General Manager of Manakamana Darshan Pvt. Ltd., Ujjwal Sherchan, explained that in addition to the digital system upgrade, the main cable wire will also be replaced.

This marks the first time in its 26 years of operation that the main cable wire is being replaced.

The upgrade process will be handled by skilled technicians from Doppelmayr, an Australian company renowned for such expertise.

The Manakamana Cable Car was inaugurated on November 23, 1998 (Mangsir 8, 2055 BS) to provide a convenient means for pilgrims to visit the famous Manakamana Temple located in Shahid Lakhan Rural Municipality of Gorkha district.

Despite the cable car service being suspended, the restaurant located at the base station in Kurintar (Cheres), Ichhakamana-4, Chitwan, will remain operational throughout this period, as confirmed by Manakamana Darshan Pvt. Ltd.
