Classes in Tharu language in Barbardia Municipality schools

KATHMANDU: Tharu language will now be the medium of teaching in schools in Barbardia Municipality of Bardiya.

For this, the municipality has also prepared a curriculum.

Text books will now be taught in Tharu language from Grades 1 to 3 in the first phase.

The new curriculum is expected to develop listening, speaking and writing skills for children in their mother tongue.

The effort is also likely to help preserve the Tharu language and help with its promotion and advancement.

Mayor Chabilal Tharu said Tharu language will be the medium of teaching from Grade 1 to 3 in the first phase and up to Grade 8 in the second phase.

As 95 percent of the students in Barbardia Municipality speak Tharu language it will be easy for them to learn, said Ratnakumari Pandey, the deputy mayor of the municipality.
