Landslide in Taplejung: Four members of the vice chair’s family buried

Heavy rains caused disaster, and disrupted transportation as six bridges washed away.

KATHMANDU: A landslide in Phaktaglung Rural Municipality-2, Khejinim, Taplejung, has claimed the lives of four family members and left two others injured.

According to Bhupendra Chaulagain, the ward chair of Phaktaglung Rural Municipality-2, the victims were buried under the landslide.

The deceased have been identified as 69-year-old Rambahadur Limbu, his wife Jasmaya, and their daughters Ganga and Jamuna, aged nine.

The injured are 40-year-old Yugen Limbu and her three-year-old daughter.

The house of Phaktaglung Rural Municipality Vice Chair Ravin Limbu was swept away by the landslide.

The victims included Vice Chair Ravin’s father, stepmother, and two younger sisters.

Continuous rainfall since Wednesday night has caused flooding in the Phaktaglung Rural Municipality area, washing away six bridges.

The District Police Office reported that transportation has been disrupted due to the destruction of these bridges.
