KATHMANDU: Israeli centrist war cabinet minister Benny Gantz announced his resignation from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s emergency government on Sunday.

Alongside the resignation, he also called for new elections.

In response, Netanyahu cited Israel’s ongoing presence in many fronts of conflict and the timing being unfit for this campaign’s end.

Gantz accused Netanyahu of prioritizing his political survival over the ceasefire agreement, alleging that Netanyahu’s government had faced escalating public opposition.

Gantz’s call for a new phase of elections comes amidst mounting public dissent against Netanyahu’s government.
