KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ leaves for India.
The Prime Minister flew to New Delhi a little while ago to participate in the swearing-in ceremony of his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.
At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal leaves for New Delhi for Modi’s third swearing-in ceremony on Sunday (today) evening.
Modi, elected leader of the National Democratic Alliance on Friday, secured a third consecutive term as prime minister after the alliance won 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP-led NDA fell short of a simple majority but surpassed the minimum 272-seat requirement in the 543-member house.
Modi is the second Indian leader, after Jawaharlal Nehru, to achieve three terms. In 2014 and 2019, Nepal’s prime ministers also attended Modi’s previous swearing-in ceremonies.
Following Modi’s swearing-in, Prime Minister Dahal and Modi are set to meet this evening, as reported by the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi.
Prime Minister Dahal is accompanied by his daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, Head of South Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana, Chief of Protocol Bishnu Prasad Gautam, Protocol Officer Prabin Bhattarai and three security personnel of the prime minister.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers on Thursday decided that the Prime Minister will participate in the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Modi.
Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to return home tomorrow.
