Bangladesh launches mega tree planting campaign

KATHMANDU: The Bangladesh government has initiated a mega annual nationwide tree planting campaign with the target of planting more than 80 million saplings in this year’s monsoon season.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the campaign from the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre premises.

Urging everyone to plant saplings and nurture them, she highlighted the urgent need for Bangladesh to mitigate adverse effects of climate change, emphasizing her government’s commitment to the cause.

With around 250 rivers and the country being highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, the campaign, initiated in 1994 as a month-long annual program, serves as a crucial initiative to inspire people to contribute to environmental conservation.
