Death toll rises to 6 in fire in central Myanmar

YANGON: A fire broke out in Chanayethazan Township, Mandalay Region, on May 31 has resulted in a death toll that has now risen to six, an official from the Mandalay Region Fire Services Department told Xinhua on Friday.

Between the day of the fire and June 5, five people died from their injuries. Then, early on June 7, an auxiliary firefighter also died from injuries sustained during the incident.
The fire was caused by a gas leak during the transfer from a large gas container to a smaller one. All the deceased suffered fatal burns in the incident, the official said.
The two individuals have been charged in connection with the fire that broke out, the official added.
