KATHMANDU: Satish Singh of the Janamat Party has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhesh State.

State Chief Sumitra Singh Bhandari appointed Singh as Chief Minister in accordance with Article 168, Clause 2 of the Constitution.

Singh submitted his claim for the position on Friday morning after an agreement was reached among the coalition parties.

He presented his claim with the signatures of 55 members of the State Assembly.

In the 107-member State Assembly, CPN-UML has 24 members, Janamat Party has 13, CPN (Maoist Centre) has 9, and CPN (Unified Socialist) has 7.

Additionally, one member each from the Federal Socialist Party and Nagarik Unmukti Party have also supported the ruling coalition.

Chief Minister Singh is scheduled to take the oath of office today.
