JAKARTA: A landslide at a sand mine in East Java, Indonesia, resulted in the death of two miners, with two more trapped under the debris.

The incident occurred in Pronojiwo village, Lumajang region, on Tuesday.

Five miners were working near a cliff by the riverbank when the landslide struck, burying four and allowing one to escape.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced on Thursday that two bodies have been recovered from the rubble, one found on Tuesday and another on Wednesday.

BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari said that the search for the remaining two miners is ongoing, with heavy machinery and rescue dogs aiding the effort.
