KATHMANDU: The Roads Department and Kathmandu Metropolitan City have face off over roadworks in the New Road area.
A dispute between the Roads Department and the Metropolitan Police made the New Road area tense for some time.
The face off began when the Metropolitan City started breaking the road for sidewalk expansion, while the Roads Department commenced paving the same area.
Local resident Amar Ratna Bajracharya reported that tensions flared after the Metropolitan City demolished the road near Indrachowk, and the Roads Department began paving it.
The situation escalated when the Metropolitan Police intervened.
Bajracharya claimed that despite the Roads Department’s warnings not to cut the road, the situation arose due to the arrogance of Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah.
Other locals also accused the Metropolitan City leadership of creating this situation by acting arrogantly.
Following the withdrawal of the Metropolitan Police, the Roads Department continued with the paving work.
