Fugitive held for alleged Rs 1.51 billion fraud

KATHMANDU: Chandra Bahadur Lama has been arrested by Nepal Police on charges of defrauding NPR 1.51 billion.

During a press conference on Sunday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sanu Ram Bhattarai, head of the division, stated that 852 individuals have filed complaints against Kantipur Savings and Credit Cooperative Ltd., demanding the return of their savings.
Similarly, 54 individuals have lodged complaints with the Problematic Cooperative Management Committee Office of the Government of Nepal against Pashupati Savings and Credit Cooperative Ltd., with claims amounting to approximately Rs 120 million.
SSP Bhattarai also mentioned that an arrest warrant had been issued by the honorable Kathmandu District Court on 3 March 2024, and the fugitive defendant CB Lama, also known as Chandra Bahadur Lama, has now been apprehended.
The Central Investigation Bureau is currently investigating the fraud case involving Pashupati Savings and Credit Cooperative, chaired by Lama.
