KATHMANDU: The storm that hit Mechinagar Municipality last night, accompanied by heavy rain and lightning strike, has caused significant damage.

According to information officer at the District Police Office, Krishna Kumar Chanda, significant damage has been reported in wards 7, 8, and 10 of Mechinagar.

He stated that around a hundred houses in the area have been roofless, electric poles have been knocked down, school buildings have been damaged, roads and private property have been affected, and in some places, water distribution has been disrupted.

The chimneys of Jayashree Halesi Brick Industry, Siddhivinayak Brick Industry, and Siddharth Brick Industry located in Mechinagar-10 have been knocked down.

The manager of the brick industries, Dilliram Shrestha, informed that damages exceeding one crore rupees have been incurred. He mentioned that seven trucks loaded with bricks, tin sheets, and iron rods were also damaged.

Shyam Neupane, manager of Siddhivinayak Brick Industry, stated that damages exceeding one million rupees have been incurred due to the storm.

Information officer Chanda informed that physical damages have also occurred in other brick industries in the municipality, but detailed information is yet to be received.

The chimney of Jorsimal located in the vicinity of Mechinagar-7, the residence of Ward Chair Prahlad Mani Oli, has been knocked down by the storm, causing damage to dozens of houses in the surrounding settlements.

The kitchen of the canteen with its false ceiling at the Dhulabari Police Office has also been damaged by the storm.

Similarly, Information Officer Chanda informed that the storm caused damage to the Ideal Secondary School in Itabhatta, Mechinagar-8, but further details on the extent of the damage are yet to be collected.

He mentioned that there have been no reports of human casualties.
