KATHMANDU: The Meteorological Forecasting Division has issued a heatwave warning for the western Terai regions, urging people to take necessary precautions to avoid the adverse effects of extreme heat.

According to the Division, the Terai areas of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini States are expected to experience hot winds and heatwaves over the next three days.

In some parts of these regions, the maximum temperature has been recorded at 40 degrees Celsius or higher in recent days.

The Division has warned that hot winds and heatwaves can cause fatigue, weakness, excessive thirst, headaches, leg cramps, dizziness, fainting, muscle pain, and vomiting.

To mitigate these effects, the Division has issued several recommendations.

To protect against hot winds and heatwaves, it is advised to stay indoors or in cool places during hot weather, avoid going outside during peak heat times, wear light and cotton clothing, cover the head with a hat or cap when going outside, and drink plenty of water and fluids such as juice and sherbet regularly.

By following these guidelines, individuals can reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and stay safe during the upcoming heatwave.
