KATHMANDU: The East-West Highway has been blocked in the Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) section of the Narayanghat-Butwal road segment due to a road collapse.

The highway was obstructed when the road caved in at Gaindakot-9 Thumsi forest area around 2 AM due to continuous rainfall since Monday evening.

District Police Office Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bed Bahadur Paudel stated that the under-construction road collapse has caused a complete blockage of the highway in both directions.

Efforts are underway to remove a truck that got stuck on the obstructed road, he mentioned.

Meanwhile, eight passengers sustained minor injuries when a passenger bus, heading east with the registration number Lu1K 8513, suddenly applied brakes at the collapsed section of the road.

The sudden braking caused the bus to skid and collide with another bus, DSP Paudel explained. Despite the challenges, efforts are being made to open the road, at least on one side.
