KATHMANDU: A new variant of the coronavirus has been detected in Nepal.

The National Public Health Laboratory has confirmed the presence of the ‘KP.1’ and ‘KP.2’ variants in Nepal.

Out of 40 samples tested positive for COVID-19, sequencing revealed that 42% were attributed to the ‘KP.1 and KP.2’ variants, as announced by the laboratory.

Currently, this virus variant has also been observed in countries including Singapore and the United States, among others in Africa.

Health authorities in Nepal are closely monitoring the situation and are urging the public to adhere to preventive measures such as mask-wearing, social distancing, and vaccination.
