Supporters stage sit-in for Sirohiya’s release

KATHMANDU: Kailash Sirohiya, Chair of Kantipur Media Group supporters staged a sit-in protest at the District Police Office in Dhanusha to demand his release.

Members of the Janakpurdham Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the Nepali Congress, and the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal also took part in the demonstration.

Sirohiya was detained on Tuesday at KMG’s Thapathali headquarters following an arrest warrant issued by the Dhanusha District Court regarding a dual citizenship issue.

A squad from the Valley Crime Investigation Office, led by SSP Sanu Ram Bhattari and SP Rabindra Regmi, carried out the arrest.

On 16 Baisakh, 2081, Indrajit Mahato of Sarlahi filed a complaint against Sirohiya at District Police Office, Dhanusha for misusing citizenship.

The warrant was issued in response to allegations that Sirohiya had submitted false citizenship documents to various organizations.

Following his arrest on Tuesday, he was taken to Janakpurdham by road on Wednesday morning, and preparations have been made to present him in court.

According to reports, two citizenship certificates bearing the same number but containing different information have surfaced, raising suspicions of identity theft.

A complaint filed with the Dhanusha District Police Office alleged that Sirohiya obtained citizenship through fraudulent means.

Sirohiya is currently in the custody of the District Police Office in Dhanusha.
