KATHMANDU: Kami Rita Sherpa has set a new record by summiting Mount Everest for the 30th time.
According to Khim Lal Gautam, the head of the temporary office of the Department of Tourism located at the Everest Base Camp, he reached the summit in Chhuchure (a location on Everest) at 7:49 am.
“Kami Rita Sherpa has established a new record by summiting Mount Everest for the 30th time,” said Gautam from the Everest Base Camp.
During the ongoing spring climbing season, he broke his own record by reaching the summit numerous times before.
Kami Rita Sherpa, a seasoned mountaineer and guide from Thamekhumbu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu, aged 54, is the first person in history to reach the summit of Everest more than anyone else.
He first summited Everest on May 13, 1994, and has since surpassed all other climbers with his record-setting ascents.
This climbing season, over 460 climbers, including Kami Rita Sherpa and his Sherpa colleagues, have successfully climbed Mount Everest, according to field office chief Gautam.
Kami Rita Sherpa’s previous record was 27 successful ascents, achieved last year in the spring season.
Out of the 41 climbing teams, consisting of 75 women and 339 men, who received permits for this climbing season, 75% have successfully summited Everest.
