KATHMANDU: Roberto Martinez has announced the 26-man Portugal squad for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament in Germany, with Cristiano Ronaldo leading as captain.

This announcement includes a mix of experienced veterans and promising talents, showcasing Portugal’s depth and strength in various positions.

Veteran defender Pepe, at 41 years old, has been included in the squad for what will be his ninth major international tournament, underscoring his enduring value to the team.

Key Premier League players such as Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot, Bernardo Silva, Diogo Jota, João Palhinha, and José Sá are also part of the squad, highlighting the significant English league representation.

Notably, Manchester City’s midfielder Matheus Nunes did not make the squad. Despite his potential, he had limited playing opportunities in his first season with the English champions.

Additionally, experienced left-back Raphael Guerreiro and AS Roma’s Renato Sanches have been left out of the squad.

Before the Euro Cup, Portugal will play three friendly matches against Finland, Croatia, and the Republic of Ireland. The tournament for Portugal will kick off with a match against the Czech Republic.
