Two dead, 21 injured in Surkhet bus accident

KATHMANDU: A bus accident occurred today on the way from Dailekh to Surkhet, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring 21 others.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Bir Bishwakarma, the spokesperson for the District Police Office Surkhet, the deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Sher Bahadur Khadka, originally from Gamudi, Dullu Municipality-10, currently residing in Neulapur, Thakurbaba Municipality-5, and Bhimsen Rana from Dungeshwor Rural Municipality-6, Dailekh.
Among the injured, one person is reported to be in critical condition while the remaining 20 have sustained minor injuries.
The injured are receiving treatment at Karnali State Hospital in Surkhet and at various medical facilities in Birendranagar.
The bus reportedly veered off the road and was stopped from further descent by a tree, preventing additional casualties.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was caused by high speed.
