Lightning strike kills 72 sheep in Sankhuwasabha

KATHMANDU: Seventy-two sheep were killed by a lightning strike in Fakua, located in ward 5 of Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality, Sankhuwasabha.

According to Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane from the District Police Office in Sankhuwasabha, the sheep were part of a flock owned by Som Bahadur Limbu.
Out of his 400 sheep, 72 were killed in the incident.
Vice-chairperson of Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality, Laxmi Chapagain, reported that the sheep had taken shelter under a tree during a storm with hail, which led to their demise in one spot.
The upper region of Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality borders Taplejung district and China.
The incident site is about a day’s walk from the central market of Sabhapokhari Rural Municipality, Barhabise Bazaar.
This area hosts more than 60 individual and collective sheep pens.
The police are currently gathering details on the extent of the damage caused by this unfortunate event.
