KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has secured a vote of confidence from the House of Representatives.
This marks the fourth time he has received a vote of confidence during this term of the House.
In the second session of today’s House meeting, Prime Minister Dahal presented the motion for a vote of confidence amidst protests and slogans from the main opposition party, Nepali Congress.
Other opposition parties also expressed their dissent by standing in their seats.
When Speaker Devraj Ghimire put the proposal to a decision, 157 votes were cast in favor of Prime Minister Dahal, none against, and one abstention.
Speaker Ghimire announced that 158 members of parliament participated in the vote of confidence process.
Despite the obstruction and slogans from Nepali Congress MPs, Speaker Ghimire permitted Prime Minister Dahal to present the motion for a vote of confidence.
The Nepali Congress has been disrupting parliamentary sessions, demanding the formation of a parliamentary committee to conduct an impartial and independent investigation into allegations of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in the misappropriation of cooperative funds.
The next meeting of the representatives has been called on Tuesday, May 21 at 11 am.
