Massive fire destroys 20 shops in Damauli, Tanahun
The blaze completely destroyed around 20 shops, with damages estimated to be in the millions.
KATHMANDU: A massive fire broke out last night at the main market intersection in Damauli, the district headquarters of Tanahun.
The fire started at around 12:45 AM in the fruit vendor shutters located at Byas Municipality-3, Main Chowk.
The blaze completely destroyed around 20 shops, with damages estimated to be in the millions.
After three hours of effort, the fire was fully brought under control, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Kumar Rai of the Tanahun District Police Office.
The fire was extinguished around 3:45 AM with the assistance of four fire engines from the Tanahun Hydropower Project, Muglin-Pokhara Road Project, and Byas Municipality.
The effort also involved support from the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents.
The Byas Municipality fire engine reached shortly after the fire began but struggled initially due to its small size and limited capacity.
The arrival of additional fire engines from the Muglin-Pokhara Road Project and Tanahun Hydropower Project made it easier to control the blaze.
The shutters, owned by the District Coordination Committee, were rented out and housed various shops.
Preliminary estimates suggest the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
