KATHMANDU: Both houses of Nepal’s federal parliament are scheduled to convene today.

The House of Representatives will meet on Friday.

The meeting, set to take place at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar at 11 AM, will see Speaker Devraj Ghimire read out a letter received from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

In accordance with Rule 10 of the House of Representatives Regulations 2079, the Speaker will also nominate members to chair the meetings.

Additionally, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is set to table the address made by President Ramchandra Paudel to the joint session of the Federal Parliament.

Another agenda item includes presenting a vote of thanks for President Paudel’s address to both houses of the federal parliament on the 1st of Jestha.

Uncertainty remains over whether the House of Representatives will actually convene, following a scuffle between MPs from the main opposition parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, during Thursday evening’s session.

The Nepali Congress has called for a parliamentary investigation, alleging Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane’s involvement in a cooperative savings embezzlement case.

The tense atmosphere from Thursday’s meeting disrupted the previously cooperative environment.

National Assembly to Convene: 8 Potential Agenda Items
