KATHMANDU: Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri has announced his retirement from international football.
Chhetri made the announcement via a video message on social media X on Wednesday.
He will retire from international football after the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Kuwait on June 6.
The 39-year-old striker has made significant contributions to the Indian team.
He made his debut for the senior team in 2005 after making a name for himself in the U-20 and U-23 teams.
After the retirement of former captain and striker Bhaichung Bhutia, he took on the responsibility of leading the Indian team.
He has played 150 games for the Indian team and scored 94 international goals.
