KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari paid tribute, including offering floral homage, at the memorial of leader Madan Bhandari on the occasion of the 31st Madan Memorial Day in Madannagar, Balkhu.

The memorial event saw the presence of leaders including CPN-UML Chairperson and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwar Pokharel, Vice-Chairperson Yuvaraj Gyawali, General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, Deputy General Secretary Dev Prasad Gyawali, and other leaders like Prithvi Subba Gurung.

During the commemoration, former President Bhandari, along with leaders from various political parties, offered tributes at Madan’s memorial and reflected on his legacy.

The memorial holds significance as it marks the tragic demise of Madan Bhandari and Jeevraj Ashrit in a jeep accident in Dasdhunga, Chitwan, on Jestha 3, 2050 B.S. (16 May 1993).

The CPN (Maoist) General Secretary Madan Bhandari and Organization Department Chief Jeevraj Ashrit lost their lives in the accident. Jestha 3 is remembered annually by the CPN (Maoist) with various programs.

Madan Bhandari advocated for the principle of ‘People’s Multiparty Democracy,’ a distinct ideology within Nepal’s communist movement.

Every year, the CPN (Maoist) organizes various events in remembrance of Madan Bhandari’s contributions.

The accident in Dasdhunga, Chitwan, on Jestha 3, 2050 B.S. (16 May 1993), claimed the lives of Bhandari and Ashrit.
