MANILA: Five people were killed and four others injured in a three-vehicle collision in Quezon province, southeast of the Philippine capital, before dawn on Wednesday, police said.

Police said the fatal accident happened around 2:30 a.m. local time when a speeding truck crashed into a three-wheeled motorcycle carrying nine people while traveling along a highway in Lopez town. The collision caused the motorcycle to burst into flames and hit a passenger bus.

The bus then caught fire, but all its passengers were unharmed.

Police said four of the motorcycle’s passengers were burned alive at the scene, while one died at a local hospital. The four injured were treated for burns.

The wayward truck fell on its side and rested on the roadside. Its driver was not injured.
