First successful spring ascent: team of 10 Sherpas simultaneously summits Mt. Everest
Led by Dendi Sherpa, a 10-member team completed the ascent to the world's highest peak at 8:15 PM on Friday.
KATHMANDU: In preparation for the spring season, a team of 10 Sherpas has successfully reached the summit of the Sagarmatha region to pave the way for Mount Everest expeditions.
With the completion of the climbing route, both domestic and foreign climbers have been granted permission to ascend the Himalayan peak.
According to Khimlal Gautam, the temporary head of the Tourism Department’s “Field” office, construction work on the ascent route began on Friday morning at 5 am with the “Route Fixing” team. “They successfully reached the summit at 8:15 pm on Friday night.
Now, the path for this season’s expeditions has opened. After the Sherpa team’s first ascent, other climbers can now proceed,” he stated.
The Sherpa team comprises Dendi Sherpa (Dolakha), Tenzing Gyaljen Sherpa (Solukhumbu), Pemba Tashi Sherpa (Sankhuwasabha), Lakpa Sherpa (Sankhuwasabha), Dawa Rinjee Sherpa (Sankhuwasabha), Dawa Sherpa (Sankhuwasabha), Pem Dorji Sherpa (Solukhumbu), Suk Bahadur Tamang (Sankhuwasabha), Namgyal Dorjee Tamang (Solukhumbu), and Lakpa Rinjee Sherpa (Sankhuwasabha).
As of Friday, 414 climbers had obtained permits to ascend Mount Everest, standing at 8,848.86 meters above sea level, which straddles the border between Nepal and China, according to the department.
