Gang held for swindling money by promising illegal immigration to America (photos)

KATHMANDU: Nepal Police has arrested and publicized a gang of fraudsters of 55 million, showing the temptation to send them to America and Canada through illegal channels.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Sanuram Bhattarai, Chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Crime Investigation Division, the arrested individuals are 47-year-old Tashi Sherpa of Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality 2, Sindhupalchowk District, Nimbuti Sherpa, 42-year-old of former Karthali Village 1, Sindhupalchowk District, and 19-year-old Nima Sherpa of Jugal Rural Municipality 1, Sindhupalchowk District.
As per Bhattarai, the gang defrauded 50 million Nepali rupees from 10 individuals by promising to send them abroad. It was revealed that the gang had been keeping approximately 15 Nepalis hostage in various countries including Kenya, under the guise of illegal immigration, and had extorted around 75 million Nepali rupees from them.
SSP Bhattarai further informed that in addition to the main case, two individuals were also arrested with 9.8 million rupees in a separate incident.
He said that some people, including Milan BK, were arrested based on information that they were dealing in hundi (illegal money transfer) in Maligaun area of Kathmandu Metropolitan City 5.
He said that those arrested are Samir Sunar, 28, and Milan BK, 29, of Siyari Rural Municipality-7 in Rupandehi.
He said that a vehicle numbered Ba 13 Ch 4858 with an undisclosed amount of Rs 9.8 million was recovered from them.
Earlier, a warrant notice was issued against Milan BK on Sept 27, 2023 on the charge of his involvement in smuggling 11.5 kg gold in Dolakha and had been absconding since then.
As per the preliminary investigation, both of them were found involving in criminal activities since two years, added police.
Samir and Milan would be sent at the District Police Range, Kathmandu, for further investigation today itself.
