Suhang secures decisive victory in Ilam-2, to receive election certificate at 11 AM

KATHMANDU: The UML has preserved its legacy of winning elections in Ilam Constituency No. 2 for nearly three decades.

According to the final vote results released at 4:30 am on Tuesday morning, CPN-UML candidate Suhang Nemwang won by getting 27,772 votes.

The closest competitor, Dambar Bahadur Khadka of Nepali Congress, got 21 thousand 942 votes.

According to the final results announced Tuesday morning, Nemwang garnered 27,772 votes, clinching the victory.

His closest competitor, Dambur Bahadur Khadka of the Nepali Congress, received 21,942 votes.

In the 2079 election, he lost to Subash Nemwang by getting 114 less votes.

However, this time, he lost by a margin of 5,830 votes with Nemwang’s son Suhang.

Independent candidate Dakendra Singh Thegim secured 11,457 votes, while Milan Limbu, who switched from the Maoist party to the Rastriya Swatantra Party, garnered 5,050 votes.

A total of 69,374 votes were cast, with 902 votes declared invalid.

Following the demise of former Speaker and ex-Constitution Assembly Chair Subash Chandra Nemwang on Sept 13, 2023, Ilam-2 remained vacant.

In the subsequent by-election held on Chaitra 11, the decision was made by the CPN to field Suhang Nemwang as the candidate.

Similarly, a program has been scheduled for distributing certificates to the newly elected member of parliament, Nemwang, at 11:00 am today at the Gautam Buddha Convention Center in the City Hall.
