Public holiday as Qatari King arrives, 21-gun salute awaited

KATHMANDU: Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani is leading an 80-member delegation and arriving in Nepal today.

He is set to embark on a two-day visit to Nepal at the invitation of President Ram Chandra Paudel.

The Qatari Emir is scheduled to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in the evening.

The delegation from Qatar includes 10 ministers.

This visit to Nepal by the Gulf nations is considered one of the highest-level visits thus far. It’s believed that following Emir of Qatar’s visit, it will be easier to bring other heads of state and government chiefs from other Gulf nations to Nepal.

Qatari Emir Thani is scheduled to meet with President Ram Chandra Poudel at Sheetal Niwas. President Poudel has also arranged a state banquet in honor of the Emir.

Thani will engage in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on April 24. Following the talks, both leaders will participate in the signing of bilateral agreements and a memorandum of understanding.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had made an official announcement regarding Emir’s visit to Nepal. Nearly all preparations from the Nepali side for his visit have been completed.

This is Emir Sheikh’s first visit to Nepal, and he is scheduled to return home on Wednesday.

On the day of his arrival, the government has declared a public holiday.

President Paudel to welcome Qatari Emir at airport

President Ram Chandra Poudel himself will travel to the airport to welcome the Qatari Emir (King).

President Poudel will personally go to the airport to welcome Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Qatari King to receive 21-gun salute

A program has been arranged to honor the Emir of Qatar with a 21-gun salute in the special room of the airport.

Airport Closure for 30 Minutes

The airport will remain closed for 30 minutes due to scheduled events.
