Kanyam, situated in the Ilam’s Suryodaya Municipality, is one of the prominent tourist destinations in the country.
Renowned for its stunning scenery, Kanyam boasts some of the finest artwork created by top-notch artists.
Known for its natural AC, Kanyam is ideal for those seeking relief from the heat of the plains.
The distinctive feature here is the series of tea gardens that catch the eye, alongside various snow-capped peaks.
This place attracts domestic and international tourists throughout the year.
Visitors from Indian cities such as Darjeeling, Sikkim, Mirik, Kalimpong, Karsang, Siliguri, and various districts of Nepal visit here. It’s also a popular picnic spot in eastern Nepal.
Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, and other districts of the Terai and hilly regions, as well as neighboring India, contribute to the significant number of people coming here for tourism and forest picnics.
Greenery can be seen in Shree Antu, Samalbung, and Pashupatinagar.
Another specialty of Kanyam is horseback riding. Tourists who come here don’t miss the opportunity to ride a horse and return after visiting the tea garden.
The income source of horse owners has also increased. Due to the high demand for tourists on Saturdays, the Kanyam-Harkate section of the Mechi Highway is often blocked. This has led to the creation of a new route for horses.
Tourists often flock to the Love Danda area of Kanyam. The Love Danda road, located between Kanyam, is approximately two hundred meters higher than the road.
This is a favorite spot for lovers and newlyweds. Locals point out that couples come here daily to visit, taking selfies with the scenic views. Naturally, Kanyam is beautiful.
Under the Nepal Tea Development Corporation, 4,300 ropanis of land have been planted with tea in Kanyam.
However, the government has entrusted the Triveni Group with the management of the tea gardens under the Nepal Tea Development Corporation for 50 years.
