Kathmandu’s air quality deteriorates, ranks 3rd most polluted globally

KATHMANDU: Air quality in Kathmandu Valley remains unhealthy due to ongoing dust and pollution.
The air has become unhealthy due to the fire and dust in different parts of the country.
According to the Air Quality Index (AQI), the air pollution in Kathmandu reached a measurement of 163 AQI today, ranking it as the third most polluted city globally.
Beijing, China tops the list with an AQI of 167, followed by Delhi, India at 165 AQI.
Such levels of pollution are considered hazardous to health.
AQI measurements range from 0 to 500, where values from 0 to 50 are considered good, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 150 unhealthy for sensitive groups, 151 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, and 301 to 500 hazardous.
Kathmandu’s air quality management plan, established in 2076 B.S., emphasized addressing situations where the AQI exceeds 300, marking a critical stage of danger.
