3 killed in illegal mining in Turkey

KATHMANDU: Three people died on Thursday when a cave collapsed in Turkey’s northwestern province of Bursa while searching for illegal treasure.

The incident took place in Iznik district. Three persons were doing unauthorized excavation inside the cave for ancient artefacts.

They died when a stone fell in the cave.

Police forces and emergency teams have been sent to the spot and the bodies of the dead have been removed.

Frequented by treasure hunters, the cave is periodically subject to illegal excavations.

The investigation has also been carried out on other persons suspected to be involved in other illegal activities by the employees.
