18 days since GC couple’s murder: Over 200 questioned in investigation
The victims, 69-year-old Surya Bahadur GC and his 67-year-old wife Gamala GC, were discovered dead inside their residence on the night of April 1.
KATHMANDU: It’s been 18 days since the tragic murder of a couple in Mallaj, Jaljala Rural Municipality-2 of Parbat district.
Despite initiating investigations on April 2, the authorities have yet to apprehend the perpetrator responsible for the heinous act.
The victims, 69-year-old Surya Bahadur GC and his 67-year-old wife Gamala GC, were discovered dead inside their residence on the night of April 1.
For the past week, a team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) has been diligently probing the case.
Additionally, a squad comprising 25 police personnel, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Khumlal Bhusal from the District Police Office in Parbat, has been stationed at the scene, actively involved in the investigation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Khumlal Bhusal from Parbat informed that despite the Gandaki State Police Office’s technical team accelerating the investigation, they are still in the process of identifying the culprits.
Bhusal, Chief of Police at the District Police Office Parbat, emphasized that the authorities have conducted a thorough investigation into the incident and are now approaching closer to uncovering the facts surrounding it.
Both local police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) are actively involved in the ongoing investigation, with Bhusal expressing confidence in soon apprehending the perpetrator.
Based on preliminary findings, Bhusal suggested that the motive behind the murder appears to be robbery. “Considering the circumstances, it appears to be a case of robbery-motivated murder. There are indications that more than one individual was involved in the crime. We are diligently pursuing all leads,” mentioned DSP Bhusal.
Bhusal mentioned that over 200 individuals have been interrogated thus far during the investigation, encompassing relatives, neighbors, and individuals associated with the victims’ families.
Prakash GC, Ward Chair of Jaljala Rural Municipality-2, lamented that even after two weeks have elapsed since the couple’s murder, the perpetrator remains elusive. The couple resided alone in the household.
Their two sons were employed overseas in Korea, while another son lived in Benibazar, Myagdi.
The police suspect that the murders were meticulously planned and executed by a professional robber.
The peculiar aspects of the case, such as the absence of any external communication devices like mobile phones and the use of makeshift weapons and wood for the killings, have added to the mystery surrounding the incident.
