Baitadi’s Jhulaghat border checkpoint, connecting with India, to remain closed starting today

KATHMANDU: The Jhulaghat crossing of Baitadi, which is connected to the border with India, will be closed from today.
Baitadi’s Chief District Officer, Bhimakanta Sharma, informed about the decision to close the border checkpoints amidst the Lok Sabha elections in India.
With the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 19 (Baisakh 7 according to the Nepali calendar) in Uttarakhand state, the closure of the border checkpoints from today, starting at 6 PM until 7 PM on April 19, has been announced by Prajia Sharma, a spokesperson.
In case of an emergency during the border closure period, both parties have agreed to reopen the border checkpoints upon mutual consent.
It has been previously coordinated with Indian authorities for the closure of the border checkpoints. It’s a common practice in many countries to close borders during elections
