Former Deputy Chair of Haldibari arrested

KATHMANDU: Damar Giri, the former Deputy Chair of Haldibari Rural Municipality in Jhapa, has been apprehended by authorities.

He was taken into custody by the local police office in Anarmani on Saturday evening.

Giri had been facing charges related to discrimination and disrespectful behavior based on ethnicity.

Somanath Poudel, the former Chief of Jhapa District Coordination Committee, had previously lodged a formal complaint against Giri on April 10.

Based on the same complaint, the police had taken Giri under control from Birtamode, as confirmed by Krishna Kumar Chanda, the spokesperson of Jhapa District Police Office.
