Young woman’s death sparks tension at Surkhet State Hospital amid allegations of negligence

KATHMANDU: Following the death of a young woman who reached the hospital on foot, anxiety has escalated in Surkhet’s State hospital.
Bhima (Rizuka) Gurung Balami, 22, of Aathabis Municipality-5 Pipalkot in Dailekh, reached to Surkhet for treatment due to a stomach ailment.
She had reached to a private hospital in Birendranagar for a general check-up. There was an issue with her uterus.
She then walked herself to the state hospital, which is widely regarded as the best. She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday morning.
During the hospital examination, doctors found remnants of placenta in the uterus, indicating a previous childbirth four months ago.
Allegedly, the hospital pronounced her dead during the uterus cleaning process after the procedure.
Around 3 p.m., the hospital officially declared her dead. Family members assert that blood was drawn without their consent, leading to the swift declaration of death. They contend that medical negligence caused her demise.
Relatives have prepared that the program of the protest will be carried forward in stages from 10 am on Friday.
Binod Basnet, the information officer of the provincial hospital, said that the incident is being investigated.
