KATHMANDU: A Ghode Jatra festival has been celebrated in Kathmandu Valley on Monday with various programs.
Ghode Jatra festival is celebrated every year on the day of Chait Krishna Aunsi.
The Nepali Army has celebrated this year’s horse procession by organizing a formal program.
As in the previous years, this year too, the Nepali Army celebrated a Ghode Jatra at the Sainik Manch Tundikhel in Kathmandu.
The event was graced by the presence of President Ram Chandra Poudel, Vice President Ramsahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Speaker of the House Devraj Ghimire, Ministers of the Nepali Government, high-ranking officials of the civil service, heads of various security agencies, and representatives from different sectors of the state.
During the ceremony, the Nepal Army showcased various sports, arts, and skills, along with dance performances.
According to popular belief, in the inner city of Kathmandu, whenever children disappeared, it was assumed that demons or cannibals did it.
To scare off the bad spirits, campers in Tundikhel who had horses with them were asked to run those horses around Tundikhel to scare off the demons.
People gathered and fed the demons near the tree that is still located in the middle of Tudikhel.
After doing this, the people of the capital are confident that the children will not be endangered by demons throughout the year.
The ritual later took the form of a festival. The tradition later changed into a national festival.
A public holiday has been given in Kathmandu Valley today on the occasion of the Ghode Jatra.
