KATHMANDU: Amid ongoing tensions between two local communities, authorities have prolonged the curfew in two administrative areas within Sunsari district until further notice.

In a statement issued by the District Administration Office (DAO), it was declared that the curfew, which was initially imposed starting from Friday, will persist in Hari Nagar Rural Municipality and Dewangunj Rural Municipality.

The local administration has enforced constraints on social, religious, and political gatherings, as well as rallies and demonstrations, as part of the curfew regulations.

Previously, the curfew was in effect in Inaruwa Municipality, Bokraha Narsingh Rural Municipality, and Koshi Rural Municipality until 10 a.m. today.

However, given the continued unrest, the curfew extension has been applied to the aforementioned rural municipalities.

The decision to extend the curfew underscores the persistent challenges in resolving the conflicts between the communities, highlighting the necessity for ongoing efforts toward conflict resolution and fostering dialogue within the community.
