KATHMANDU: The District Administration Office (DAO) in Sunsari has taken significant steps to address escalating tensions by extending prohibitory orders to three more municipalities.

This decision, spearheaded by Acting Chief District Officer Vedraj Phuyal, encompasses Inaruwa Municipality, Bhokraha Narasingh Rural Municipality, and Koshi Rural Municipality.

These areas join Harinagara Rural Municipality and Devangunj Rural Municipality, where similar measures were already in place.

The move follows a concerning surge in violent clashes between rival factions in Bhutaha Municipality, raising fears of unrest spreading to neighboring regions.

To mitigate this risk, the DAO has opted to broaden the scope of prohibitory measures, which will remain effective until further notice.

The recent clashes in Bhutaha resulted in injuries to four individuals, prompting law enforcement to intervene with measures such as tear gas and aerial firing.

Currently, three of the injured are receiving medical treatment in Biratnagar, while one remains hospitalized in Inaruwa.

In line with the DAO’s directives, all forms of public gatherings, including social, religious, and political events, are prohibited in the designated areas.

This decision stems from a dispute between factions that escalated into violence, prompting the local administration to prioritize maintaining peace and order.
