KATHMANDU: Local residents in Lalitpur’s Gwarko area have voiced concerns over the sluggish progress of the construction of the flyover bridge, urging the construction company to pay heed to the matter.

They emphasize the need for timely completion of the project, which was scheduled to be finished by the end of Jestha.

However, locals express dissatisfaction, stating that the construction work has not been carried out according to the planned schedule.

Bagmati State lawmaker Ramkrishna Chitrakar, who visited the project site to inspect the progress and provide support to the locals, highlighted significant delays in the construction.

He noted that despite the project’s importance, the ongoing delays have resulted in adverse effects on the daily lives of the locals.

Chitrakar also warned of potential consequences if the construction company fails to complete the work on time, including disruptions to traffic systems in the Kathmandu Valley.

Concerns have been raised over the impact of the prolonged construction period on the daily lives of locals. Chitrakar emphasized the urgency of completing the project as per the stipulated timeframe, warning of potential protests by locals if the work continues to lag behind schedule.

He stated, “This project has encountered significant delays. It’s not just a minor delay; it’s becoming a never-ending project. The delays have already begun affecting the traffic system in the Kathmandu Valley, and the local community is facing inconvenience in their daily lives. Despite assurances of completing the work in three shifts and devising an action plan to ensure timely completion, it seems that the commitment made to the public is not being honored. We need to inspect whether the work is progressing as promised. The commitment was made to ensure that by the first week of Asar, vehicles would no longer be disrupted here. But it seems that the work according to the commitment has not been done.”

On the other hand, the construction company has said that it has been working 24 hours for some time.

A contract was signed for 17 crore 6 lakh 88 thousand rupees for a 540-meter flyover with a 35-meter-long bridge traffic structure in the middle section of the four-lane road.
