Malta’s new president takes office

KATHMANDU: Myriam Spiteri Debono, Malta’s new President, officially assumed office on Thursday following a unanimous vote by Parliament, making her the 11th President of Malta.
The swearing-in ceremony took place during a special parliamentary session held at the Grandmaster’s Palace in Valletta, the official residence of the President.
At 71 years old, Spiteri Debono is the third woman to hold this prestigious position. In her inaugural address, she emphasized her commitment to electoral reforms aimed at fostering greater representation of multiple political parties in Parliament and ensuring fair representation for marginalized groups in society.
Additionally, she advocated for increased acceptance and integration of foreigners residing in Malta.
