KATHMANDU: Pathao, the ride-sharing service, is set to expand its operations to 17 additional cities across the country, including the major cities of State 1, according to Ashiman Singh Basnyat, the management director of Pathao Nepal.

In line with the policy of expanding services nationwide, Basnyat informed that Pathao Nepal is striving to extend its ride-sharing service to more cities beyond Kathmandu Valley and Chitwan.

As per Basnyat, ride-sharing services will now be available in nine cities of State 1, including Biratnagar, Itahari, Dharan, Damak, Urlabari, Biratchowk, Inaruwa, Birtamode, and Bhadrapur.

“It will be possible to book inter-city rides from one city to another, besides getting services within the vicinity of a nearby city,” Basnyat stated.

According to Basnyat, the process of registering bike riders for the service expansion has also commenced.

“Aspiring riders interested in becoming part of Pathao need to submit applications along with necessary documents such as updated licenses, bills, and insurance papers. After completion of the documentation process, they will also receive online training,” Basnyat explained.

Currently, over 200,000 people are engaged with Pathao’s array of services, including more than 190,000 bike riders, over 10,000 captains (taxi drivers), and an additional 5,000 registered for food delivery.

The company said it has the highest insurance coverage in Nepal, providing up to Rs 1 million for death or dismemberment due to an accident, and up to Rs 100,000 for medical treatment.
