KMC issues warning to private schools: Failure to Reflect Nepali Identity in names within 7 days will halt enrollment

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued directives to all schools within its jurisdiction to rename them in a manner that reflects Nepali identity.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, stipulates that such renaming should be completed within seven days, failing which the student enrollment process will be halted.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the metropolitan city has imposed a deadline for institutional schools to undergo the process of renaming to reflect Nepali identity.
Reminding that there is provision in Rule 154 of Education Regulations, 2059 and Rule 70 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City School Education Management Regulations, 2074, there is a provision to name the school in such a way as to reflect Nepaliness, and warned that if the process of original naming is not carried forward, the student admission process will be stopped.
With the reminder, the city administration intends to expedite the fundamental renaming process without hindering student enrollment procedures.
Additionally, schools are required to submit proposals for the proposed names determined by the School Management Committees within 35 days for approval by the metropolitan city.
