KATHMANDU: Nepal experienced a significant upsurge in tourist arrivals, witnessing a remarkable 28.9% increase in March alone, according to recent data released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB).

Comparing March 2024 to the same period last year, arrivals surged by 28,741, with Nepal welcoming a total of 128,167 tourists in March 2024, a sharp contrast to the 99,426 visitors in March 2023.

Indian tourists constituted the majority of this surge, with 30,698 arrivals, followed by Chinese tourists with 12,093 arrivals.

The positive trend extends beyond March, with a total of 272,755 foreign tourists entering Nepal in the first three months of 2024, marking a substantial increase of 33.78% compared to the same period in 2023.

Breaking down the regional contributions, Asia (SAARC) accounted for 40,777 visitors, while Asia (others) witnessed 28,648 arrivals. Europe closely followed with 27,582 tourists, and Oceania contributed 4,780 visitors.

During this time, Nepal also welcomed 12,664 tourists from Canada and America to explore its natural beauty.
