Dharan murder case: Boyfriend commits murder after proximity to another boy
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Sabin alias Baburam Bhujel of Dharan-16, was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon from Mulghat in Ward No. 9 of Dhankuta Municipality.
KATHMANDU: Police have apprehended the boyfriend of 21-year-old Sumana Shrestha, who was found murdered in Dharan Sub-Metropolitan City-16. The arrest was announced today during a press conference held at the local police office in Dharan.
The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Sabin alias Baburam Bhujel of Dharan-16, was taken into custody on Thursday afternoon from Mulghat in Ward No. 9 of Dhankuta Municipality.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Bipin Regmi, head of District Police Office Sunsari, confirmed the arrest and stated that necessary investigations are underway, with the Sunsari District Court extending the deadline by seven days.
According to SP Regmi, the altercation between the couple escalated over the usage of Facebook, leading the young man to carry out the planned attack with a khukuri.
Further revelations suggest that Sumana had developed a close relationship with another individual named Pradeep Shrestha, a colleague at Global Orience Dharan, which intensified the conflict between her and Baburam. Their two-year-long Facebook relationship turned sour, particularly after Sumana’s employment at the same company as Pradeep.
Baburam, who had been working in Mulghat since the beginning of Chait, reportedly confronted Sumana upon his return to Dharan on the Chait 6 (March 19).
Following an evening rendezvous, the couple rode on Baburam’s scooter to the crime scene around 9 PM, where the tragic incident occurred.
In addition to Baburam’s arrest, the police have detained five other individuals suspected of involvement in the crime, although Baburam is considered the primary perpetrator due to his intimate relationship with the victim.
