KATHMANDU: The Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) and the public prosecutor’s office have completed the process of recording Krishna Bahadur Mahara’s testimony about his suspected involvement in the gold smuggling case.
Mahara was caught from Bhairahawa after the Gold Smuggling Probe Commission recommended legal action against him.
The Kathmandu District Court granted Mahara a four-day remand to allow for more investigation, but his health required hospitalization, which led to his admittance to Norvic Hospital.
Throughout his detention and following hearings, Mahara has maintained his innocence, claiming no participation in the gold smuggling case in his statement to the public prosecutor’s office.
Mahara’s statement documentation is complete, and officials expect him to be released today, given his continued medical needs.
