Dharan murder case: 6 held, making public today
On Thursday, authorities conducted arrests in Dhanakuta, detaining Sabin Bhujel of Dharan, Railway and others from different places of Dharan.
KATHMANDU: The police have apprehended individuals connected to the ghastly murder in Dharan, where the body of 21-year-old Sumana Shrestha was discovered in a gruesome state near Dharan-18.
Shrestha’s body was found with fatal injuries, and preliminary investigations indicate her murder.
On Thursday, authorities conducted arrests in Dhanakuta, detaining Sabin Bhujel of Dharan, Railway and others from different places of Dharan.
The District Police Office, Sunsari, confirms Bhujel’s arrest from Dhanakuta’s Mulghat and five others from various locations in Dharan for further investigation.
“A primary investigation reveals Sabina’s significant involvement in the incident,” stated a police official, adding, “Five others are also under suspicion, and additional investigations are ongoing. Further details will emerge as the investigation progresses.”
The arrested individuals are scheduled to have their remand extended by the district court in Sunsari on Friday.
Post-investigation, the police are preparing to hold a press conference on Friday to publicly disclose the involvement of those connected to the incident.
“After extending the remand today, we will publicly disclose the individuals involved in the incident,” said a police official, “Various angles are being investigated regarding the cause of the incident.”
The police have previously utilized trained dogs to identify individuals connected to the incident.
On Wednesday afternoon, a local woman discovered the body while tending to goats in the area.
A dead body was found in the ditch.
The police also found a small-sized khukuri a few meters away from the body.
