Police assistant constable dies of lightning strike
According to Sumit Kushwaha, the Information Officer of the District Police Office in Panchthar, Majhi was standing at the entrance of the police station around 11:20 PM when lightning struck.
KATHMANDU: An incident occurred in Panchthar as a 35-year-old police assistant constable, Pandav Kumar Majhi, lost his life after being struck by lightning.
Majhi, who was stationed at the Gopetar police station, succumbed to the lightning strike last night.
According to Sumit Kushwaha, the Information Officer of the District Police Office in Panchthar, Majhi was standing at the entrance of the police station around 11:20 PM when lightning struck.
His fellow officers rushed him to the nearby primary health center in Gopetar for immediate medical attention.
After receiving primary treatment, Majhi was transferred to the district hospital in the middle of the night for further medical care.
Unfortunately, despite efforts to save him, the doctors pronounced him dead around midnight,” stated Kushwaha, another police official.
Reportedly, Majhi was conducting his evening patrol when the lightning struck. Upon returning to the office and seeking shelter from the rain and storm, he stood at the entrance of the police post, where tragedy struck.
Majhi, hailing from Gramathan Rural Municipality-4 in Morang, was posted at the Mauwa Police Station and was assigned duties at the Gopetar Police Station.
The police have ensured that Majhi’s body has been kept in the district hospital’s mortuary for further examination.
